It's liquid gold for distiller

DISTILLER Whyte & Mackay has won two trophies and nine gold medals at the International Wine & Spirit Competition, the "Oscars" of the wine and spirits industry.

The firm, which was established in 1844, added that all 35 of its entries to the contest had been recognised by the judges, who based their decisions on professional tasting and chemical analysis.

The Scottish company, which enjoys a nine per cent share of the global Scotch market, is also in contention for the Distiller of the Year award, which will be announced in October.

The two trophy-winning brands were Glayva Liqueur and The Stillman’s Dram 30-Year-Old Fettercairn.

And among the gold medal-winners were Isle of Jura Superstition, Glayva Liqueur and Whyte & Mackay 12-Year-Old Premium Reserve Blended.

Richard Paterson, master blender of Glasgow-based Whyte & Mackay, said: "The dedication and expertise of a wide range of people at Whyte & Mackay goes into developing our portfolio and it is the ultimate endorsement when these products are recognised by our colleagues in the trade."
